Teaching in the times of Pandemic - By Shalini Sehgal

Being a teacher is incredulously challenging in the best of times and in the pandemic . It’s even more complex . With schools shut down … God knows how long ….a new world of virtual lectures has come into existence but with lots of loopholes and challenges . Right from managing the technology , self learning a new way of teaching making emotional connections with the students through the screen is an herculean task . It is an onerous responsibility As a teacher I have to set goals for my students . I need to have a structured plan that doesn’t suffocate or burden them . Obviously it’s unfair to expect the same level of concentration and involvement as in the classrooms .In schools , the children are captive to meet but in a virtual setup, they aren’t . Further , seeing all my students right there as little boxes on the screen makes me emotional . These are challenging times . It’s not easy for teachers .Teachers all over are struggling behind the screen to make online learning work. Being on a roster is tiring , distanced and new .

It will be long time before we all meet . The need of the hour is to just embrace this reality of virtual classes and explore how we can make the most of the tech without succumbing to it .
